Grace is a retired banker with strong interests in holistic healing and esoteric theology. A dry sense of humor and a love of nature and animals are combined with strong curiosity about the Universe and how it functions. She joined OurSpace Acupuncture in May of this year and have met many wonderful people. This volunteer opportunity has provided another outlet for her curiosity about metaphysics. It may be said that the practice of acupuncture is much like directing traffic on a busy highway. Nerves are the highways that carry messages to and from the brain. When “traffic” is disrupted we feel stress and or discomfort. Acupuncture is a very effective means of correcting the “flow” of “traffic” in the body along nerve paths to the area(s) that are not functioning properly. This environment offers an excellent opportunity to indirectly assist practitioners as they bring healing to those in need for a very nominal donation.

Claire is a Chicago native who graduated with a degree in Neuroscience from Pomona College in 2013. Currently, she is working as a research assistant for the National Institute for Complimentary and Integrative Medicine (NCCIH). Her research group studies non-pharmacological interventions for chronic pain management. Specifically, she is interested in how emotion and cognition can influence other body processes like pain and inflammation. Claire is currently applying to combined MD/PhD programs and hopes to help bridge the gap between research and the patient experience. She is excited to join the team at OurSpace and to learn more about community acupuncture.
