She received a Master of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine from the New England School of Acupuncture and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Virginia. She now ownsLittle Bird Acupuncture, a community acupuncture clinic in the Adams Morgan neighborhood of DC.
Malika Hook Muhammad received her Doula certification in 2008. After training, Malika worked with the Philadelphia Alliance for Labor Support (PALS), providing doula services to women in Philadelphia who could not afford them.
